First where did you try this car out at? Whoever set this abbott box to 14 psi is laughable. The stock car does 15 with a boost controller. The only thing that the owner of this car did was buy a $1k boost controller that should of cost less then $50. I would have to agree with you on this one. That car is a joke.
Abbott boxes are tunned by adjusting the wastegate for more boost. This is one advantage that abbott boxes have over others. Abbott boxes also count on an upgraded wastegate to help reduce the turbo lag. This is why they give a 10psi wastegate with their boxes. If I'm wrong here guys someone correct me, please.
Abbott also recommends setting up their boxes to around 18-17 psi but you can get up to 22+ psi out their ecu alone.
Your also right about tunning your car in general, you need to test drive and see it for yourself. I'll tell you funny little story, Hirsch or Nordic a couple years ago tested their viggen 9-3 versus a abbott 9-3. The end results were that there viggen 9-3 upgrade, was no upgrade at all it had the same hp and torque numbers. The only increase was that the boost came on faster and gave more of a turbo rush to its owners. I'm sure your like me and what numbers.
I also have bought a abbott ecu after testing about 5 other ecu's. I also wish that I could share with you my numbers but I don't have any. I drive my car for fun and enjoy it alot. I admit that I would love to find out the engine numbers but I just haven't come around to getting them yet. This might be because I'm always changing the set up for the best possible performance. The viggen and the 9-3/ng900 all share the same suspension so if you like the improvement on the model you tested then you could also do the same mods to your car. Sorry your first experince with abbott was not a good one but it took them about three times to get my ecu done right for me.
Good luck test driving in the future.
