The info comes from the parts catalog and dealer literature, so I suspect it's right. The oil jets are there to cool the pistons under high boost. Old Saabs (B202s, early B234s) didn't have these jets and run high boost just fine, so I would not consider it a necessity, but certainly a nicety.
Overall, a B234 is a B234 no matter how you slice it. There is no difference in materials or build quality or specifications. What you can do to one you can, essentially, do to the other. That doesn't mean you should be reckless, but it does mean 225hp is well within reason for an "upgraded" CS or CSE.
The transmissions are similarly identical, though I'm pretty sure the Aero has an upgraded clutch. I'm too lazy at the moment to check the parts catalog - someone can probably correct me if I'm wrong. Gear ratios are the same between Aero and FPT motors, but I believe different for the LPT motors. Either way, the bearings and relevant materials are the same, and they should by all reckonings be capable of the same power handling.
Don't be surprised... unlike some manufacturers who produce a zillion cars annually and can see a real savings by re-designing each trim/performnce level, Saab used to be a small, lonely company. The added work necessary to design unique components for each trim level was much more difficult than designing one piece correctly and using it wherever possible. That was the *glory* of Trionic - Saab could effectively build three different motors (LPT, FPT, and Aero) by changing nothing but software and a bolt-on turbo. That's money-saving flexibility that has certainly paid off for them. Even back in the '80s, with the mythical SPG, *nothing* was special about this car except for software... the engine and transmission and the turbo (on all but one year) were the same between regular 900Ts and SPGs... selling people a $4000+ package that cost them virtually nothing but some plastic panels was brilliant.
So, go fork over some money at Speedparts (Engstrom.net) and enjoy Aero power. :)
