89 900T

my timing setup WAS 18dbtdc with btm at about .4 - .8 actuator gap closed
relief at 10 psi wich was about 11dbtdc
with this i could run 1-15psi(somtimes to 18) 1-8 was a little slow but
8-15 had very good performance.
So i thought i would open up the gap on the actuator to try for 2.5 mechanical retard to maybe help the lower end. after opening up the gap to about half of stock my timing had advanced to 19btdc???? I could not get a decent timing curve with this so i closed the actuator gap. leaving about a hairs gap......THEN MY TIMING CHANGED TO 20DBTDC??? why would this happen?? It did not look like i had bent the shaft to much(if i did is this what would happen???)
Why is my timing changing when i bend the stop in the ignition diaphram??
Also I was trying for about 15deg at 5psi, 13deg at 10psi but when i turn the btm down i never can get it low enough .... I thought i was on the right track but now i feel like i am just chasing my tail.
sorry for the length but i could realy use some understandable information.
