scanwest ran a N/A 16v car with a 8,000 rpm redline, IIRC they tore down and rebuilt after every event. race car engines are only reliable because they get RACE CAR MAINTENANCE: torn down, inspected repaired and replaced more often than you change your clothes! on my race car head bolts are becoming a serious expense, $10-12 each times 10 for each time i pull the motor apart. i've blown $500+ on the bloody things already. also keep in mind that scanwest most probably put solid lifters in (i seem to remember rob saying this)- the hydraulic ones start floating around 6500 and by 7000 you're in serious danger. there's no question the bottom end can take it but if i was going to a higher redline on a 16v i'd definitely put solid lifters in. (hint: there's a ford cosworth lifter that is a drop in replacement) since you're talking about a turbo your money will be better spent getting useable boost in quickly and not muck about with high redlines. my rally car hits max boost around 2700 and maintains full boost to the redline, 6800. that's a LOT of useable power. where you need power in a rally car is a lot closer to where you weant power in a street car.

8v turbo intercooler motor running 13psi
head: new valves, new cryo-treated guides, new cryo-treated lifters, new cryo-treated springs, race cam.
block: bored 1mm over, decked, new oversize 8.5:1 mahle cryo-treated pistons, balanced and lightened rods, ARP rod bolts, polished crank, new crank bolts. final CR estimated 8.75:1
waiting on non-stretch head studs to replace stock stretch bolts.
