I think there may be some confusion here...
All 900 Turbos, always, have been 2.0l motors. Except the Viggen, but that's a 9-3 and sort of escape my generalization. Regardless, c900Ts were always 2.0l, anyway. The only power-producing difference between the 160hp, 165hp, 175hp, and 185hp models is the APC box. Since normal 900s have APC boxes which include a lot of boost taper (boost at torque peak is less than boost at redline) getting more horsepower is merely a matter of reducing that taper.
The drain plug is a function of the transmission and not the engine. Since the transmission sits under the engine, there is no conventional oil pan or similar device. The sump (engine oil) is drained through one hole in the transmission, and the gearbox oil through another. After 1991, the gearbox oil drain plug was removed. This is most likely due to the fact that a filter screen was designed into the transmission, and cleaning it requires removing the differential cover from the gearbox... Saab probably wanted cleaning to accompany oil changes, and since doing so necessitated pulling the cover anyway, a drain plug was likely considered redundant.
So, to answer your question, use any motor you want - they're all the same!
