will 10.5:1 pistons and cam add around 100hp??? Posted by ryan [Email] (#2222) [Profile/Gallery] (more from ryan) on Tue, 8 Oct 2002 18:39:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 1987 900 8v non turbo, that i will be souping up in probably half a year (the transmission will need to be changed). The engine is in awesome shape (100k) and i have added a COMPLETE MSS exhaust as well as done some intake work. So the plan right now is to strip it down to the block, send it in for honing and boring, etc, etc. I'm going to be adding flat top VW pistons (10.5:1) and a mild MSS cam (probably have to get rid of fuel cutout to get full potential). This will be in addition to a rebuilt head, and other little stuff. Anyway, a guy that races saabs over here in seattle told me that doing that would be like day and night compared to what i've got now (no doubt it would be), but he also said it would add somewhere in the area of 100 extra horsepower. Is this a little bit of a stretch, or do you think it might actually do that much?? I was considering NOS originally (a 50 shot maybe?) but if it works out anywhere near as close as his predictions, i'm going to have to dump that idea, cause i don't need a brand new transmission blowing up with 260hp going thru it!! anyway, thanks for any input!
