Hey all, (Kevin K especially)

I run a high performance c900t with LH2.4.

To avoid further questioning, here are the engine mods I can think of:

Shot peened engine block
Lesco custom 2.1 cylinder head, 3 angle valve job, porting, cc mods
2.1 intake manifold and fuel rail
Lesco Stage II crower style regrinds with Lash caps
Custom Dave Kennedy Cosworth compressor/impeller in a T-3, bored very oversized
Intercooler Fan from George's imports
84 8V turbo pistons (Mahle, new), lower CR
SPG9 RRFPR
SPG9 Dawes valve
SPG9 Big bore throttle body
SPG9 Stage II APC box with my own personal mods
SPG9 30lb/hr injectors with dash mounted AMM pot set at 300 ohms
(adjustable)
Bosch 18 PSI BOV
MSD 6BTM ignition system
9000 2.3t flywheel and clutch kit
5 speed conversion with factory rebuilt 5 speed from sweden (first gear is way too low!)
K+N free-standing air filter kit (necessary to allow intercooler fan to fit)

Ok, these concerns go out to Kevin K and others:

At exactly 16 deg BTDC, I am getting impressive engine knock at light boost (2-5 PSI and medium loading. I run a knock light in the dash from Pin 19 of APC. I am using a stock distributor actuator with no modifications. Currently I have the boost retard knob set to 0.75 and I persist in having this problem. Consequently, I have had to retard timing by several degrees in order to get rid of the knock. This has certainly affected acceleration.

The engine only has 400 miles on the odometer. A compression test revealed a high reading of 180 PSI across all cylinders. I was expecting more around 140-150. I can't see how this reading is so high especially when I went with a larger cylinder head and lower cr pistons. Not the best scenario when I have a turbo capable of maintaining 20 PSI at 6,000 RPM (It's that good).

I am in a dilemma because I am certainly not getting the performance I am expecting (approx. 250-270 HP). And with all the talk about how many have adjusted their timing to 20 deg BTDC, bent the actuator arm for less initial retard, and set their BTM knobs to 0.5, if I did that I would surely melt a piston in the first half hour. RRFPR is adjusted to 1.9 at idle, as specified. Cams are timed correctly as I verified last night.

Does anyone have any idea why I am having this timing problem? At idle the engine runs pretty darn good. It has a slight lope because of the cams, but it doesn't rattle my fillings out, and when warm is pleasing to the ear. This engine, as designed, should throw me back in my seat, but unfortunately, it doesn't. I have built a few engines in the past, with no problems.

Please help!
