boost/knock limit or knock limit only?

Am I correct in assuming that from the factory the apc boost/rpm profile was intended to avoid knock altogether and that the boost dump on knock detection was intended to handle the odd scenario (ie., bad fuel)?

Is the concept on modded apc's to 1) set the boost limit outside of what would typically be attainable (say 25 psi) letting knock ultimately determine the maximum boost and 2) reduce the amount of boost dumped once knock is detected to permit quicker boost recovery?

If this is the case, then using knock as your boost limiter is OK, right? My concern at the moment is that I am testing out a 10 ohm resistor across the pressure transducer which effectively removes all boost limits (boost taper by the apc and fuel cutout). Of course the apc is still dumping boost on knock. This all started as a boost troubleshooting exercise, but I liked the results of the resistor and am contemplating keeping it.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
