No, you are right, the LSD, chip, exhaust, suspension changes and intake are modifications allowed under the Street Prepared Rules. It's also a major hang-up with the Viggen (lack of a limited slip) with all that power. Since I'm thinking about modifying and pushing the hp up to 300 hp, the power won't do me any good in autocross without a limited slip.
I believe the traction control can help in two ways. First, set agressively at say about 20% slip allowed, you could literally floor it coming out of the corner and have the computer modulate the throttle for you (it's going to be about 100 times quicker than you could do it pumping the throttle). Therefore, it would allow for quicker times. A lot of race cars use this technology. Unfortunately, the stock traction conrtol is set way before the cars threshold, probably so it kicks in the moment any slip is detected. My 2000 Viggen doesn't have traction control. SCCA rules will allow for updating / backdating, therefore I can update mine to 01 specs.
Second is that I see snow. With 300hp and a LSD, both tires will break loose often. In a FWD car, that essentially loses all steering input since those tires no longer have any grip. It is one of the main reasons you don't typically see a LSD in a FWD car from the manufacturer.
hoping this clears things up,
Chris Fisher
