Just a custom down pipe, even a 3" one doesn't address the real problem especially on a C-900. Brad (KC Saab) has pointed a lot of us in the right direction starting with the easier Mitsubishi equipped (later) C-900T's where the waste gate is in the turbine housing rather than the bolt on swing valve assembly like the T-3 Garrett setup. The trick is to bring the exhaust out in two separate tubes, a small (around 1 1/4") one for the wasted exhaust and probably a 2 1/2" one for the main exhaust. When they join back together about 12" downstream the down pipe becomes a full 3" which further prevents the wasted exhaust from disrupting the main exhaust gases. On the Mitsubishi TE05's you pitch the cast elbow and it's adapter (behind it) to the turbine housing and make a thick (3/8") flanged two pipe setup with a divider that reaches down into the turbine housing itself. On the Garrett T-3's it will take a straight through cast iron piece with the same waste gate vale and linkage as the stock swing valve assembly to accomplish the same thing, the divider will reach through the new straight through casting and extend a little ways into the turbine housing. Brad's Mitsubishi setup allows the battery to remain in the stock location as well as the Garret one I'm working on for the earlier cars. Until either of these can be made in a production environment they simply cost too much as compared to an external waste gate system which is readily available. Anyway you look at it it's 20 to 25 H.P. and when you get the extra exhaust out of the combustion chamber you don't have that extra heat that causes more detonation which of course cuts your boost back. All in all I wouldn't be surprised if the total extra power was around 35+ with the higher boost levels that could be run with this whole exhaust out of the turbo mess straightened out! Dave
