mass. inspection/emissions....(help)

i need some help here. i just moved to the boston area about 2 months ago from seattle. i got the car registered in ma and now i need to have the car inspected and emissions tested. i am running into some problems though.
at the first inspection station the guy took my car to pull it in and couldn't drive it. he rode the clutch and stalled a couple times. he then pulled it into the bay and the skidplate hit the edge of their lift. so he backed out the car, gave me a refund and said he would not inspect the car.
at the 2nd station, the car was pulled in. they began the test and then came back in to me and asked if i had a performance muffler on the car. when i said yes, they said the car was too loud and they could not finish the inspection until the car sounded like a "normal" car. wtf? i put a 3"jt exhaust on the car around 5-6 months ago.
so, i am now approaching the last of the 7 days i have to get it inspected before i can be fined for driving it.
the car is a 90 900s with a pretty heavily modified engine. it has an aftermarket programmable ecu, but i can't even get to the point of getting emissions tested because i seem to keep hitting these stumbling blocks.
does anyone from the area know of a place i should try? or anyone who might be able to at least get me all the way through and then let me fix things up? i'd hate to see all the time and money spent getting the car to this point go down the drain because i have to make the car "normal" again.
any thoughts/suggestions? thanks...
