years ago I calculated the advantages of removing my GM a/c out of my GTO by using the equations for acceleration and equations for torque. The name of the game is wasted engine torque. I found that in a 3500 pound car like my old convertible GTO, there was limited advantage to removing the A/C, as the compressor and hoses and rad weighed less than 2% of my cars weight and would not steal torque unless I had it on when I raced, (that is not possible as all cars have a cut out switches that activate when you are hitting wide open throttle). My rear seats weighed more than the A/C, as did my spare and jack. The best way to get more HP to the wheels is to remove the belt, which is what I would do before I raced. Even then, the belt was only spinning the A/C clutch, so I am not sure I was doing anything meaningful, but it was easy enough and might have made a small difference. I would replace it after the race and enjoy hot summer days. This eliminates the a/c's drain on the torque of the accelerating/spinning engine.

If you are a weekend hero or a red light racer, it is a silly waste of time to remove the A/C, and it will affect the resale value of the car.

Want to eliminate something more helpful? Go to Swedish Dynamics and get that aluminum flywheel. I thinned my flywheel on my GTO to really thin, and wow what a diffenece on my 500+hp engine. A light flywheel will kick some a$$ and diminish wasted torque in the engine by eliminating overall weight and torque robbing weight needing to be rotated. Then get a manual rack and pinion and install it, thereby losing the drain from your power steering pump, which is far more significant.
