Kevin,
First of all: congratulations on a nicely built 9000 Aero and also a nice website showing it.
In terms of looking for new projects, I'm not really sure why you want to start looking for one already. Firstly, there's still quite a bit to be done performancewise on your current car. Secondly, it looks like an enjoyable car, so why not enjoy it for a while?
Peformancewise on your current car I would suggest a turbo upgrade (either a "reasonable" GTBB such as GTBB25 or perhaps a T04B or E with BB:s) and an extractor style header. You already have the other necessary hardware (IC, exhaust, clutch, LSD etc) to support it. Add some nice big injectors (bigger than "green giants") and you're looking at an easy 400 hp.
If you're absolutely dying for a new project, I second the proposal to think 9-5. Sure, it's a heavy car and it needs upgraded engine internals to support 300+ hp, but other than that it's an excellently handling car with a more "robust" engine than the 9-3 SS has. Even though the 9-5 is more "difficult" to tune than the 9000, it's still a LOT easier than the 9-3 SS.
Actually, I would say that the outlook for tuning the SS with the new aluminum engine block is rather gloomy...
Proposed recipe:
- 9-5 Aero estate, 5 spd ('02 to get new suspension, seats etc) black on black
- Upgraded rods and pistons
- 3" all the way w/ oval 4-5" tail pipe
- GTBB w/ internal wastegate + extractor header
- Large injectors (some available from http://www.chipcenter.cc)
- Large Speedparts intercooler
- Large intake pipe
- 3" MAP-sensor
- Upgraded clutch
- Fly in Fredrik from MapTun to do a rolling road mapped custom software
- LSD
- Bigger brakes
- Coilovers front and rear
- Poly bushings
- 18" wheels (19" will take away too much acceleration...)
- US market rear roof wing
- Hirsch steering wheel w/ carbon inserts
- Carbon dash
Cheap? No. Fun? Probably...
/ Karl
