The aid unit has an arm connected to a vacuum actuated diaphragm. This arm adjusts the timing inside your dist based on vac/boost. If you take the unit out of the car, you will see that it has a stop built into it to prevent too much retard (vac moves the arm up-advance/boost moves it down-retard). You can bend the stop, or add material to it or the arm to eliminate its retard function. Take it apart, its easier than it sounds!
