is there an ideal coolant temp? Posted by kenS [Email] (#606) [Profile/Gallery] (more from kenS) on Wed, 9 Apr 2003 17:34:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Is there a "correct" coolant temp specified for the classic 2L-16 valve turbo (85-93 900T)? I finally got around to installing a calibrated temp gauge in the block, and I was surprised at how low the coolant temperature really is. When the dash gauge shows a little over1/3 up, the temp is actually only 72-75 C (160-170 F), which is pretty cool by the standards of other engines (190-195 F). Is there any impact on performance if the engine is too cool?
I stuck the gauge sensor in the block coolant channel, where the cooling line that goes to the turbo usually comes out of. I have the 82 deg fan switch and tstat installed.
Wondering if I should switch back to the 89 deg switch/tstat?
