I installed cross-drilled Zimmerman rotors in the front on my '98 9000, along with a new set of PBR Deluxe pads, about 6 months' ago. I made sure to give ample time for the "break-in" period. I like the look of the cross-drilling peeking through the rims, as well as the zero-dust that these pads produce.

The problem is that I have a groaning noise coming from the brakes whenever I brake hard and then tend to have some brake fade if I brake again (hard or easy) soon after. Also, it feels something like "metal-on-metal" at the brake pedal when this is happening. I notice, too, a little brake dust in the pattern of the cross-drilled holes sprayed across the rims. When braking normally (easy), the brakes feel fine (if I didn't just brake hard previously).

Someone had mentioned on the 9000 board that these pads may not be suitable for cross-drilled rotors. I would like to know if anyone has ever experienced this, and/or what I can do about it. I would like to keep the rotors, so if there are any ideas on different pads, I'd like to know them. I would like the pads to produce no- or as little- dust as possible like the PBR's do, since I hate having to clean the rims every week!
