Engine Managment Computer failing?

A while back I posted about how when you accelerate full throttle in any gear the boost needle jumps to the red then bounces around. I brought it to a Saab dealer and they said that the computer was going. They also said to just drive it till it dies and then replace it, b/c if you replace other stuff first, it will not help at all. My question is, does this sound correct? Also when they say the computer is going, is this the same computer that you can upgrade? I am just wondering, b/c if it is; I would like to upgrade my computer when this one fails.
One more quick question. If and when I upgrade the Aero I was thinking about going all out with the 300HP setup. My car is a daily driver and will be going from NY to Michigan frequently. I currently have 110K miles on the car, and plan to drive it for the next few years through college. Will the higher boost, 300HP computer deter every day driving? Also will it kill the engine quicker, or it I maintain it like I should will it last for another 100K miles? Thanks for all your help, as always.
