For your scenario to work, the excess boost would actually cause a reversal of airflow going into the engine. This alone would create havoc in the intake system. Add to that the AMM's mis-calculations due to this blast of hot, pressurized air & simply doesn't make sense.
I don't know how Nathan's SPG air plumbing is set up, but on my T5 9-3 you can easily see that the return path from the DV is intentionally directed TOWARDS the turbo & AWAY FROM the airbox (that is, in-line with the already-moving intake air). If they really wanted the air to push its way back to atmosphere, they would've routed things much differently.
You are correct about the typical method employed to overcome an open BOV, & the one-sided effect it has on a valve's release time.
