By a brand Thermo-Tec. They use the Thermo-Tec wrap which is about 1.5 in wide and maybe an 1/8 in thick. Then they spray it with Thermo-Tec's Cool It Exhaust Insulating Wrap Coasting rated to 2000 degrees. They have a number on the bottle that you could possibly use to ask them some questions. It is 1-800-274-8437.
Two friends have been using this on both their VW races cars and the engine temps have dropped significantly. Nothing like the drops mentioned on the ceramic coating site posted, but these are real tempertures as I saw them myself. Plus just by adding the wrap he drop anoth tenth or two in the quarter mile. I am not fully sure of the formula but I know their is a ratio between decrease in engine compartment temperature to increase in HP. I am sure its a rather small figure but in the case of racing every little bit helps.
I am still going to have my downpipe (maybe whole exhaust) coated so I'll give under hood figure then.
