Question for experts on FPR

I was discussing modifying my APC with my mechanic (very good mechanic, at a SAAB shop) and he recommended doing it. However, when I asked about swapping out the factory 2.5 BAR FPR on my '89 900 Turbo for the 2.8 or 3.0 BAR FPR that many have recommended on this site, he said that, while controversial, it's a mistake because the 2.5 FPR that comes on the turbos is a rising rate FPR, in which the fuel pressure actually rises substantially (to nearly 7 BAR). The 3.0 BAR FPR that most people swap in comes from the non-turbos, and according to him it's a fixed pressure FPR, 3.0 BAR at idle or under full boost. So you're actually LOSING a lot of fuel pressure except at idle.
Any opinions from anyone who knows what they're talking about would be greatly appreciated.
