on powerstroke fords there are upgrades where they sell you a compressor wheel & housing that you bolt on unbalanced
I think the issue especially with used styff is that for one the turbine gets real hot & spinns fast this changes the shape a bit over time & Ive seen quite a bit ground off just the turbine side to get it in balance than on the compressor wheel it is alum which flexes quite a bit & over time changes its shape & I have also seen quite a bit of material removed on compressor wheels to balance them
than they balace both as an asembly
& I agree that bolting parts together with out balancing is a bad idea what you can do is carefuly pack your turbine & compressor wheels up send them off & have them balanced & buy a kit & do the assy yourself this will save you $ this is what Ill do in the future the T3/60 in my SPG I traded a new powerstroke turbo I bought sight unseen for $150 thinking it was an SVO turbo to a builder who built mine rite in front of me
so I paid $150 for a fresh T3/60 with the 300ZX compressor:-)
thats my 2 cents
