Okay, I am hoping someone might be able to help with my 92 9000T.
This past winter I replaced my timing & balance chains. I had the head rebuilt and had the valve guides replaced with bronze sintered guides. I had the turbo rebuilt by Turbonetics. I had them clip the exhaust wheel 10 degrees so as to help overcome the backpressure that is so common with the T-25. The intake side is a T-28 super 60. According to them it should be able to flow around 450 cfm, more than enough for 300HP. The lag is a little greater but it does spool up well. I also have APC and LH chips from BSR, 3” downpipe, and 2.5-inch cat back Saber exhaust.
The problem is the APC will not let the car hold boost. Now remember I am getting more than base boost. It will jump up to say 21 psi then almost immediately go down to 15 psi, sometime as low as 13ish. This problem is not new since I but the engine back together. I had it before but I attributed it to the old turbo being bad. The old turbo had about 1/4 of play in either direction. I have a brand new APC solenoid so I knew it’s not that. I have all new silicone hoses. I know I do not have a vacuum leak. If I disconnect the charge line the car will boost right up to fuel cutoff around 26 psi. I have a brand new TCS Throttle body (Ouch) and the TCS was just calibrated. I cannot believe the car is pinging. I run nothing but Sunoco 94.I also have Aquamist 2c water injection and it makes an ever so slight difference. I went through and cleaned all of the appropriate connectors just to make sure, including the bulkhead, DI cassette. The only thing I have checked is the knock sensor. Apparently you have to be a contortionist to get at it. From what I have read on Townsend’s website it can be checked by removing it from the block, wrapping it in a rag then test driving it to see if you get full boost. I guess I should also check it for cracks.
If I cannot sort it I am tempted to by-pass the APC by running a Greddy Profec-B and putting the car on the dyno to make sure the A/F ratios are Okay. I did have 40 lb injectors installed and it ran worse with them. I would assume because it was dumping too much fuel and I was losing HP. I also have an Apexi S-AFC, which I have not installed yet. I bought it so I could try to get the larger injectors to work.
Ideas anyone?
