correct the problem. more often than not people try to correct the results of problems and not the cause. if you replace the pistons with new, and even stronger, you will still have predet and you will still end up in the same boat.
melting a piston can be predet or lean burning. you are running too much boost and not enough fuel. or your timing is too advanced. until you find out whether it is lean or not, you can't correct it. i would guess, more than likely you are too lean. i say that because at 13 psi of boost, i am running timing at 16-18 dbtdc; but i have the fuel to support the boost so i can keeping the timing fairly high (such is the beauty with the aftermarket ecu...:) ).
i would do one of two things. 1. rebuild the engine and return to close to stock and or slightly above (i.e. 15-17 psi). make sure you have the fueling i.e. larger injectors, rrfpr, etc. 2. rebuild the engine and focus on fueling. go with a standalone, piggy back, or some other mix using extra injectors w/controller, etc. do not crank boost without knowing your fuel situation.
hope this helps.
