The ion sensing is no different from the T5 to the T7.
The T7 boosts to a certain air flow target and will attain whatever boost pressure, within limits, to get there. So making the charge air cooler will not increase power by increasing air mass and fuel flows. But the ECU might be able to deliver more power if the temperatures were otherwise promoting knocking. Knocking can be from the wrong fuel, combustion chamber deposits, bad plugs or gaps as well as high intake temperatures. When a T7 increases boost to get a mass air flow with hot thin air, the temperatures can be quite high. If the water injection is upstream of the temp sensor, this might have some benefits. With a T7 there is a complex interplay of many factors. I have not seen a report which clarifies the benefits with a T7. Perhaps water injection with a T7 would have benefits more likely to be seen with a modified T7 that is pushing the limits.
