You will loose power as the '86 up 2.0 heads have one each of the intake ports real screwed up! The intake ports are smaller but that's not the problem however you would be feeding the smaller (intake port) head with your bigger 2.3 intake manifold. The 2.0 and 2.3 head gaskets are the same until the later '94 up 2.3's. The early oiling on the '88 2.0 head will work but there's at least one set of holes that the 2.0 head doesn't have that the '91-'92 heads do have. Your 2.3 head shouldn't have been hurt all that bad, even if it did break a valve guide it wouldn't be that expensive to repair. Also you can use the 2.0 valves out of your '88 head to save some money. The valves are the same until Saab went to a larger intake valve in '94. By the way a 2.1 non-turbo 900S (& base) head is the same as your mid year 9000 head valves and all if you can find a good one to bolt on. Hope this helps! Dave
