The T5 boosts to a target boost pressure, but the charge air density is a function of temperature. So performance can vary wildly with temperature. So water injection, better IC etc will provide more power. The T5 is very sensitive to intake air temperatures and insulation of some of the intake ducting can help reduce hot weather power loss. And if a cone filter is mounted that takes in hot air from the engine bay, that really sucks.
The T7 attempts to boost to a target air mass flow, so the perforamance is somewhat constant. Improvements to the intake and exhaust and anything to lower intake temperatures or restrictions will make the turbo work less hard and this will reduce power taken by the turbo's turbine which reduces exhaust backpressure which robs power for any given air mass flow. The T7 will also boost to quite high pressures at high altitudes to achieve air mass flows. So in a sense it is attempting to control available torque and boosting to whatever pressure is required to get it, within reason. Ditto for hot thin air.
