I hate to say it, but I thought that was a bad idea when Dan at SD described
the "upgraded" mount that they were making. They remove the rubber from
and OEM mount, then refill with polyurethane. It may be tougher, but apparently
it has the same failure mode as the Saab mount.
Here's some specs on mine: 6061-T6-51 plate (6061 is the alloy, T6 is the hardness,
51 means stress-relieved), CNC cut and anodized red, black, or blue. Two types of
rubber for vibration isolation, and class 12.9 hardware. Due to the design and
construction, this mount is not a wear item. If you are interested, email me and I'll
forward pics to you (or anybody). [ScottP! -- I'm working on a Saabnet ad right now!]
To Taylor: you could reverse engineer this design (or one of your own) simply, as
I did with my first prototype. But the secret is in the details: what types and
durometers of rubber, tolerances, stack-up height, etc. I've been through all kinds
of iterations to get the design where it's at, so I'm reluctant to give away the recipe.
