Recommend you post same inquiry on 9-3 and 9-5 boards; get all the feedback you can. I've never driven an Aero so can't compare it to my 2000 5-door Viggen. I've owned the Viggen about a yr & am very glad I bought it. I enjoy driving a responsive car on a daily basis, but wanted a car w/4-doors & enough room to seat 4 comfortably. Previous two cars were Ford Taurus SHO 5-spd cars--loads of room & a truly amazing engine. Was afraid the Viggen might feel cramped after the SHO's. I quickly became fond of the tidy 9-3 size. Still has lots of cargo room. Viggen front seats are world class. Here's my recommendation, FWIW:
If an obviously clean & well cared for 5-dr Viggen shows up @ the auction, buy it. Drive it, live with it, and decide whether or not it offers you enough room. The obvious plus for the Aero wagon is it's cargo space, and a wider cockpit. If you decide you really need the wagon's extra room, start looking for an Aero wagon. You're more likely to have a second chance at finding an Aero wagon than a 5-dr Viggen. Remember, Saab only brought 864 5-dr Viggen to the US total in 3 years.
