When I retro'd the BPV in my 83T back in 85, I looked at a new 85T in the showroom ... install was with vac nipple up ... opposite to yours. With nipple up, and side port to the TB, the pressue across the diaphram is balanced at high boost, so the diaphram is not stressed. Installed as u had it, at high boost, pressure is only on top of diaphram, resulting in high stress.
With forge piston unit, orientation has no significant effect. Just remove/clean/lube every few years.
