Chris,
If you have the cylinder head off of the 1997 900SE,It would be a shame to overlook some of the hidden potential in it. If you are able to remove the valve assemblies (which would give you the chance to replace valve seals and check for guide wear), this would be a great time to gasket match, remove restrictions/port, and provide a mild polish (keep this finish to 80 grit and under for proper fuel atomization). If the valve assemblies are removed, it would be a perfect opportunity for a performance valve seat as well as back-cutting valves and nearly any local machine shop can help with this process. This could add up to 10% average increase in cfm/flow at all valve lift points.
Cylinder head updating will have a substantial impact on the turbocharged engines due to better induction (more air/fuel into combustion chambers)and especially with respect to the increased exhaust velocities out which allways brings a quickly responsive turbocharger performance (reduces lag).
Good luck and best regards,
GSK @ SWEDISH DYNAMICS,INC.
