Hi Erik, Tell the machine shop you're using to cut the crankshaft side of your flywheel (depth wise) to from 11mm to 12mm thick to the friction surface. Our minimum is 11mm and if someone isn't after the lightest flywheel possible we go to 12mm. As far as the O.D. of the cut they can go to within 1/4" of the ring gear as long as they use a large radius-ed cutter as per Kevin's picture. The inside of the cut is the tricky part as the 30 degree angle just outside of the crank flange area has to be retained. If you were to print out Kevin's picture for them it would show them how the area outboard of the crank flange needs to continue to the new depth of the final lightening cut. Our 5th new products photo just below customer photo's
http://www.group9performance.com/customers.asp shows the one I did for Kevin Y. On Kevin's site http://www.kyankton.net/Engine.htm he shows that I went from 29 lbs to 20 lbs but I just weighed the '94-'98 9000T (Aero) flywheel we purchased to lighten on an exchange basis and it weighs 20 1/4 lbs? I thought I remembered thinking to myself that I had almost cut the weight in half on Kevin's and I now remember that I did get it safely down to around 11 lbs. I believe Kevin meant to say that it started out a 20 lbs and that I removed 9 lbs and ended up showing that it's original weight was 29 lbs! Glad I'm answering your post as in the process I checked our site and it also says 29 lbs as I must have gone by Kevin's site not having a late 9000 flywheel to weigh at the time. Now that I figured that whole mess out I'll order in a bunch of late 9000 flywheels to lighten as it looks like we get them to within 2 lbs of our (9 lbs) aluminum C-900 flywheels. With all that said we can assume that Saab purposely made their late 9000 flywheels thicker to get them to 20 lbs even though they're actually smaller in diameter than the mid year 9000's. They probably didn't want to go to a lighter flywheel with a longer stroke and balance shafts however Kevin says his '94 worked out great! "The engine revs a lot quicker and I have not noticed any problems with idle. Basically, this is a positive recommendation." Take care, Dave
