Forge BPV tuning question

I've got a Forge BPV on my Viggen, I also purchased a tuning kit for it that basically allows you to adjust the spring force on the piston. I'm not sure I understand what increasing the spring force on the piston does, it seems it would just keep the valve from opening as fast and close the valve faster. What effect does doing this have on engine performance? I assume it have some effect when you get on an off the gas, like between shifts.
Thanks,
Rob
