Turbo driving technique

I've got a 99 viggen with Abbot Racing ECU, intercooler and Turbo inlet pipe, also a Forge BPV. I'm having trouple sorting out the best way to drive the car fast. It seems the engine responds smoother and with more consistient torque if you gradually lay into the accelerator. Obviously, if you just mash it in the lower gears the front tires will go up in smoke, but acceleration seems stronger if you gradually, but rapidly, depress the accelerator. My brothers 944 turbo seemed to respond the same, it responded to gradual throttle with smooth steady (and spine compressing) acceleration, if you put the throttle down too much, the engine produce distinctly peaky power (it felt like the the torque would swell and then drop off at 3500 rpm, the swell again at 4000 rpm). My viggen motor seems to be particularly sensitive to boost "spikes", you depress the throttle, more and more, and suddendly, bang, the gauge goes into the yellow and your fighting with the wheel as the tires go up in smoke. Maybe it's the ECU making things hairier.
The biggest problem I have when trying to drive quickly, after upshifting, the engine seems to "bog" when I get back on the gas. I may be shifting too slow (I've adapted for the balky shift gear), or maybe I should get on the gas earlier and slam the gear a little more (ouch!).
Any ideas or pointers?
Thanks,
Rob
