PAECO Nightmare/Saga Continues Posted by Shaun [Email] (#683) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Shaun) on Mon, 26 Mar 2001 20:38:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well, for those of you that have been following my attempt to get a decent hi-po rebuild back into my my 1985 900T, the nightmare/saga with PAECO (alleged import hi-po engine builders "since 1964"), I have an update.
I went to drive my car home from the shop on Saturday (it's been there since Oct. 1999) and it died. Surprising, since I had let it run for a combined total of 60 minutes in the shop and had it out on a backstreet a few times. Things weren't perfect (although they should have been for the $$$ I spent with these imcompetent fools), but it was somewhat roadworthy...or so I thought.
I had it towed back to the shop and left it until this evening. Went by, pulled the valve cover because it sounded like the timing chain went or something....my mechanic said it sounded like it what out of time before I took the valve cover off.
I tried cranking it and low and behold, the exhaust cam sprocket was loose!! A visual before hand did not disclose this problem. Pull the sproket off and the notch to the cam and the slot on the sproket are all F'd up. Pulled the intake cam and the same thing, although not as bad.
Did a leak down test and, you've probably already guessed it: got me some bent F'g valves. Who knows what kind of damage, if any to the head besides.
IF ANYONE EVER THINKS OF USING PAECO, OR USES PAECO, YOU DESERVE TO LOSE YOUR $$$. The owner is a flaming moron who will not stand behind his work....let alone hire competent engine builders. Come to find out he uses young kids with virtually no formal training in engine building. I looked at Bentley's and it gave not only the torque specs for those particular bolts, but said to use Loctite to ensure they don't back out...imagine what would happen if people simply read and followed instructions. Think life would be simpler?
Anyway, PAECO's going to have to cough a couple of cams and valves. I can't imagine that I would want to waste my time with these fools anymore.
