Aluminum is fine, but I would only use 7075 for that application, and make them
comfortably "beefy" (I know, great engineering term) with room around all
thread locations. We used M12x1.75mm bolts for my buddy’s Celica w/ Porsche
radial-mount TT calipers. Loc-tite all bolts in Aluminum! I've seen them come out -
Just for fun, here is the story:
Audi Club track day at Laguna Seca, and a race-prepped (for real, not a poser) Audi
4000T with Porsche front brakes was lapping in the same group as I was. Well I
came up to the entry to the corkscrew, and the Audi is piled into the concrete wall at
the end of the braking zone on the *right*, which is really weird to see. Back in the
pits, the driver explained what happened: somebody did not tighten the 2 radial mount
caliper bolts, so it was only a matter of time before it let go. The caliper wrapped
around the hub (still held by a SS brake line) and instantly jammed the wheel, which
put the car into a crazy spin into the wall. Ouch!
