It's so hard not to get carried away and shoot for the highest numbers after spending all that money (I know from experience: I got the forged pistons, the big valve head, the liquid/air IC, and looking at all the four cilinder Jap turbo cars on magazine covers that put out a gazillion horsepower I think "hey, with this lot I should have gotten 300 hp or more, not a puny 250!") - but if your goal is something that puts a smile on your face every time you drive it, a car that's genuinely fast and capable on real roads and tracks that have bands in them, and you want things to hang together for some time to come, some restraint is called for. Throttle response and lag-free power delivery will count for a lot more than, say, a hundred extra hp you can't really use.
Most seasoned track day goers will tell you to only add more power after you made the suspension and brakes work to the point that they're more capable than the lump that propels it. After a few lapping sessions, mostly in relatively modest rental cars equipped with a tyre manufacturer's latest UHP profiles, I tend to agree.
I just put some Toyo Trampio R1Rs around Saabine's 16"Aero's. The change totally transformed the car. Now I can -use- the power and the brakes!
