From what I understand the V6 in the 9k isn't a bad motor, though I have no personal experience with it. It's a little weird that Saab offered two 200hp engines in the same car, but I think they had a very different character. IIRC, the 9k V6 is a 3L version on the 2.5l NG900 V6 and based on an Opel(?) motor. It has some pretty cool enhancements though, like a variable-length intake manifold. It also had some problems, like a weird valley mounted oil cooler that often leaks, but I don't think it is a 'bad' motor in any way, just under represented and probably not as good as the excelent turbo 4, which I imagine makes more torque and gets better fuel economy. I dobut it feels at all like a Regal engine, FWIW. I also believe that you could get it with a stick, which is quite cool really, though I'm not sure about this for the US market.
Just a few thought anyway.
