1997 900 SE Turbo: Engine started missing and stalled out two blocks later, Check Engine light on. Next morning engine finally started, drive to indie machanic, he pulls computer code that says mis-firing. Replace entire ignition block with new Saab block. Within 10 miles getting some hesitation with Check Engine light, back to the mechanic, he resets code, does test drive, no problem.
Second time out after this service I go for a 20 mile ride. Hesitation on entering freeway. Then no problem. However, later get into stop and go jam at bridge and engine will not run smoothly / continues to stall. I have to baby it to get home. Every 2-3 minutes it stalls, I havw to wait 5 minutes, get a normal re-start, normal power, 3 minutes later another misfire, Check Engine blinking and stall.
I know the neutal safety switch is bad however it has run over one year (including a cross-country trip) without causing any problems, besides occasionally starting in third gear. Currently no work so I don't want to pour money into it un-necessarily.
Question is: go back to indie mechanic who will gladly replace the ignition block or go to a dealership who had more equipment and experience?
Sorry for long-winded explanation.
Carter
