Are you addicted to your car? Just how crazy about cars in general are you? Is your car your identity? I want to hear about it. In detail. Reason for my asking is I was looking through the State of Nine (saabnet sponsor) catalog and sat there shaking my head in amazement at all the Saab and car related accessories and add-ons, including a black and white checker-board style garage floor made of 1 foot square metal tiles that you can install. How cool is that? Anyone who installs that garage flooring is clearly into car culture.
So I want to hear just how far into it you are. You got the SAAB baseball cap and key fob? What kind of space - garage or barn? Tools and machinery? Got the large fan for cooling the engine while tuning? Got the exhaust fan? Lift? Sound system or just a radio? Suspended gas heater or portable kerosene burner? Got an intercom so the rest of the family can call to you without leaving the house? Posters of cars, tools, or bikini girls along the walls? Does the garage have a "funny" sign over the door made by one of your kids? Is there a covered parts car beside the garage near the kid's swimming pool?
Me? Living is S. Cal as I do, all my work is done outdoors, beneath a grape vine ceiling. I have a 6 x 10 enclosed modern shed for car and home related tools, paints and power tools, a 4' high Home Depot bought portable storage bin strictly for car related parts, spray cleaners and such, plus a wood chest containing engine fluid containers near the car space. I also use the chest flat top surface to lay out my tools while working. Beside the wood chest is an assortment of wood blocks of varying size and shape used to prop things up with, chock the wheels and so forth. I have both water and electric within 10 feet of my car space, and trees nearby to shade out the sun in the morning and mid-afternoon on through the evening. Any spray painting is done "out back" where overspray isn't a problem. Portable AM radio is tuned to either sports or classic American music. As you can tell, I'm not really a car nut. I'm more like a well focused shade tree mechanic. What about you? How whack are you?
disclaimer: Thought not specifically performance related, this post is related by way of addressing the personality characteristics behind the need for speed. Plus it points to products available for purchase through linked Saabnet sponsors.
