Street and race updates are entirely different. Making 300 horsepower at 8000 engine rpm is simple to achive for race use but this is not a realistic power band for daily driven use. Power comes in at 6K+ RPM and leaves nothing for low end to mid range. Higher engine rpm also requires lower boost pressures for safety issues.
For street use, a higher boost pressure is a simple and least expensive method of achiving real horsepower.
Any engine horsepower is improved by increasing engine volumetric capacity which will entail lower restrictions, higher engine rpm, or higher boost pressures. Higher boost pressures will always bring the most results at the least amount of effect to low end engine performance and wallet.
The most unbelievable street 900 was making well over 350 horsepower at about 5500 engine rpm but boost pressures were close to 28 psi. The low end was like a freight train and I had to hold on to my seat in 5th gear. This is also a 900 used to grab groceries and commute to work on a daily basis.
