The Mitsubishi turbine wheel housing has the wastegate acutuator assembly built directly into the housing versus the Garrett which has a separate wastegate assembly that bolts up to its turbine wheel housing. Ultimately, both designs create the same problem of turbine wheel exhaust discharge interference which happens when the wastegate exhaust gases merge into the turbine wheel discharge. This creates a restrictive situation that leads to excessive exhaust manifold pressure, and then loss of power especially in the upper RPM range. Look at this link http://www.bpmsports.com/exhausts_twindump.htm to see how the problem has been solved for people with Subarus. Look closely at the end where the down pipe bolts up to the turbo and you will see the extra little piece that separates the exhaust flows into their respective pipes. What I have done, achieves the same objective, but different because of the design differences between the turbine wheel housings.
