cars with long term misfires have oil buildup on the plug in the hole with the miss because of the cylinder misfire keeping the plug cooler than it should be
did the drivability problem clear up with the new DI?
& then you pulled the plug later?
I mean with those deposits I am sure that plug was causing some problem
I do agree with chris that a miss or plug problem could cause the buildup but I think the buildup is oil just not sure why its there ?
I think the faning efect is just forces at play in the combustion chamber I think the 1/2 quart in 3Kmi is fine
