A few weeks ago, the bottom end of my SQR Stage 3-modded '99 9-3 let go. Terry saw my post asking for advice, and told me I HAD to go get the car and take it to some guy named Jak in Black Mtn, NC. Terry was really emphatic about this. Before I could decide what to do, this guy calls me at work, identifying himself as "Jak", and that he would like to fix my car. We talked for a while, and he seemed to know what he was doing. He even got the car transported up to his place. He stored the car until I found another engine, then put it in, right there in his driveway! Kept apologizing for not having a shop building. Charged me WAAAAYYY less than most places would...even helped me out when my tranny failed by dropping everything and coming all the way to my house to check it out! He fixed this, too - perfect job.
So why would I say to stay away from Jak? Here's why: ever since I met this guy, all I can think is "more power...more power...moooorrre poowwer..." Since I met Jak I've already bought a TD04 from a 9000 Aero, but won't put it in, even though it came from a car with only 60k miles - no sir. Got to wait until I can afford big green Volvo injectors....a bigger intercooler than the Viggen unit I have now...send the turbo off for a rebuild with bigger compressor....Stage 4 from Frank.....there's no end!! My wife thinks I've gone crazy.
This guy is a maniac, and it is VERY contagious. If you want to ever think about any other car again, stay away from Jak! Of course, if you already have this affliction......Jak is like, the MAN!!!
