I was able to take off the inside part of the air box by just removing the plastic cover under the air dam. You have to stretch to get to the last clip, but it can be done. That part of the air box has 10 rib's on the inside, every other one has a clip on it, on the out side. I cut out in between the rib's every other one, and left the circle in the middle to hold the filter, it really opened it up and the best part it is still protected by the fender and it seperated from the hot engine compartment. I might take it to the next level and install mesh in the openings. i will post a pic as soon as saabpics gets up and running, it seems o be down right now.
