I couldn't agree with you more. Flexibility is what its all about. I'm changing over to an EMS 4424i Stinger with a 32 bit Motorola Processor so its a fast as the mega dollar ones. It is a bit cheaper mainly because of the limited amount of outputs that I can control. I'm getting around this by running it in piggy back mode. The stock ECU will control everything EXCEPT fuel delivery, boost and timing. So you don't need to be crafty like it was posted. Another point that was mentioned was the cost factor. In actual fact, cost was the main reason I chose the aftermarket ECU. When you consider all the band aids - RRFPR, modding fuel chips and then ignition chips etc etc, it was cheaper to set up the EMS and have it control everything instead of having 50 low cost mods (which do add up) acting as variables to the standard computer.
Go for it - its daunting at first but once you get into it, its not that bad.
