Hello everyone!
I ended up having to buy the T3/T4 turbo from that guy, because he was going to have ebay throw the book and then some at me if i didn't! :P
oh well, serves me right for not researching it before i bid, but... i'm sure i'll find a use for the thing.
I looked at some GT28 turbos, which flow up to 310 HP, and those seem like exactly what i need, and for $775 too, not bad.
In any case, a while back i got a Hyperboost bypass valve, non-adjustable, and installed it on my 1990 9000 turbo.
It worked great, but when my engine was water damaged (long story) i thought it might be a good idea to replace it.
it turned out to be fine in the end, just a little dirty, but it gave me a great excuse to buy the hyperbost adjustable BPV instead! ;)
when i installed the valve, i un-intentionally installed it backwards, feeling rather stupid at the time, not for any particular reason. (happens alot, but what can you do! ;)
anyways, i never adjusted the spring load because i was told that it came from the factory PRE-adjusted to the level of the NON adjustable BPV, and since i wasn't creating any more boost at the time i didn't want to mess with it.
WHen i started creating more boost, i thought it would be a good idea to check the adjustment on the BPV...
...when i started adjusting it, i realized at that point it had been in backwards the whole time.
Oh, and what i mean by backwards is, the charged air comes from the TOP side of the diapragm, and pushes it CLOSED, instead of pushing on the UNDERside of the diapragm.
this got me to thinking, that adjustihng the spring in that situation wasn't really oding anything at all, except maybe making it harder for the BPV to OPEN.... right?
in a NON adjustab;e BPV though, where there is a chance you are making too much boost for the BPV to stay closed... would there be an advantage to moutning it in the "backwards" position, like mine was?
would the backwards flow of air instead keep the BPV closed at higher boost pressures?
or is that just the most silly thing youlve all ever heard and now i've got to go sit in the saabnet corner! ;)
if that's the case, i guess i should go change mine around the right way tomorrow. lol
it works fine though, holds 20psi...
