To be more specific, exactly what I'm trying to find-out is this:

1. In opinions here, can/would a clipped TURBINE in a 5cm2 HOUSING (yes, I understand that 5cm2 is part of AR) hope to flow close to the amount that a 6cm2 or 7cm2 housing would flow with a standard turbine? Does anyone have any real-world experience?

2. Has anyone tried to do what I'm talking about? If so, did you have the turbine clipped, or standard?

All the shops I've spoken with don't seem to have any problem at all with running an 18 or even larger compressor-side with a 5 or 6cm2 housing, and have sucess building powerful, streetable, and reliable cars/motorcycles--which must be because they never read any posts on Saabnet by some mysterious guy from Sweden named Dr. Boost. That's not saying a larger turbine side isn't better, but it could be that smaller, clipped or not, is good enough for the amount of CFM's that will be moving. Has anyone tried it either way? Does anyone have any real data or experience?

It isn't bad or good engineering I'm considering, it's acceptable or unacceptable compromise. Obviously if I melt the turbine side of my turbo it would be unacceptable. A little extra backpressure and heat with decent spoolup and slightly restricted top-end flow? Not ideal, but maybe acceptable.
