rim weight vs performance Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Sat, 5 Feb 2005 09:51:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Any mechanical engineers out there? I know rotational weight is far different from static weight, but what I don't really know is how much. Like if you add 5-6lbs to each wheel, it is a noticeable difference in acceleration and fuel economy. I know this because when I went from 16" to 17" wheels on my previous car, I witnessed it. Is there any kind of forumla to calculate the effect? Obviously the weight distribution on the wheel comes in to play as well, but I'm just looking for an approximation. How about any anecdotal evidence?
I'm looking for a second set of rims for my 9000 Aero, and I'm wondering how much value to place on how light the rims I can get.
