The factory recommended initial timing setting for your 16V turbo is 16 degrees BTDC. Advancing your initial timing would make the APC have to kick the boost back due to sensing detonation sooner and retarding it would allow more boost but hurt turbo spool-up and throttle response. You can however play with your retard limit by bending the stop 1 mm down (twice the gap that it comes with) on the ignition advance retard diaphragm on your distributor and then setting your base timing at around 20 degrees BTDC. This trick will help "give a bit more kick" but more than half of the problem with the stock ignition diaphragm is that the spring isn't strong enough. To totally correct this problem we install a stronger spring on the retard side and machine the actuator arm for 1 more mm of travel rather than bending the stop. Saab was aware of this problem as they used to have an 010 distributor that replaced the 008 your car uses that came with a diaphragm with a stronger retard spring and allowed a little more retard.
