I think you are talking about the 8V & 16V turbos
the 8V had a 40 trim comporessor so it was a garett T3/40 with a .42ar compressor & a .48ar turbine housing
the 16V turbo had a 45 trim compressor so it was a T3/45 with a .42ar compressor ousing & a .48ar turbine housing
so the diference was the compressor the erlyer being a 40 trim & the later a 45 trim compressor
the 45 will move a little more air
I guess you pulled those #s you have as OE #s or something but they dont represent what the turbo actualy is I think they are just part #s
